DEPRESSION YEARS 1929 - 1939

During this time farming families had, as much as possible, to become food self sufficient; whilst searching for a source of cash income to cover medical and other expenses.

“rabbit skins, hair from horses' manes and tails, cow tails and wool plucked from dead sheep were sold to travelling buyers.

One of these buyers was known as Jacky the Jew and another was Bill Hutchins who used to give the children on the farms he visited an apple from a case which he picked up on his way from Albany”
